Porcelain Fused to Zirconia (PFZ)
For a more cosmetically pleasing choice a patient may prefer a Porcelain Fused to Zirconia (PFZ) crown. PFZ crowns have a natural tooth appearance and are a great choice for crowns that will appear in the visible smile line.
By using the emax porcelain over a zirconia substructure we can achieve the strength of porcelain to metal that is aesthetically pleasing.
Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM)
The porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown is a compound between a porcelain jacket that is laid on top of a metal skeleton that fits over the actual tooth. There are three types of metal that can be used to fuse the porcelain to. You can use precious/high-noble metals, semi-precious, or non-precious metals.
By using a precious metal for the PFM this creates a more desirable environment for the gum line and is a very hygienic option. Porcelain fused to non-precious is an extremely durable option for a posterior crown.
